Thailand seeks digital nomad permits to become a digital hub

Thailand seeks digital nomad permits to become a digital hubDuring the “AI Revolution 2024: Transforming Thailand’s Economy” event, held on Monday at Krungthep Thurakij, Prasert stated that the nation needs approximately 100,000 specialists for professions using artificial intelligence. But as of right now, he claimed, the country only has about 21,000 AI specialists.

He stated that as part of the so-called Global Digital Talent Visa project, the DES Ministry will work with the Board of Investment (BOI) to apply for a special visa for AI professionals and individuals with highly developed computer abilities.

Reported by The Nation, Prasert stated that the ministry will expeditiously forward the unique visa application to the Cabinet for approval when the BOI has finalized its specifics.

In order to strengthen Thailand’s digital economy and assist in making it a regional hub for digital innovation, he also stated that his ministry will research the new Artificial Intelligence Act of the European Union and use its development principles for AI.

Under the National AI Committee, which Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin chairs, the government will also form a subcommittee.

According to him, Thailand has a well-defined operational plan for investing in AI infrastructure, including the construction of data centres, cloud centres, and high-performance computers. The subcommittee will oversee the implementation of AI legislation.

Thailand’s AI sector will concentrate on creating deep technology and a Thai-language-based language model.

According to him, the DES Ministry is hoping that incentives for investing in AI infrastructure will draw major businesses to Thailand and help the nation achieve its goal of being a hub for the digital economy.
