TripAdvisor predicts Tokyo to be the most popular travel destination in 2024. Should the prediction come to pass, this renown would build upon the triumph that started when Japan’s borders were reopened in October 2022.

10.7 million tourists visited Japan between January and June alone, which is higher than during the pre-pandemic period in 2019. At least four million hikers have visited Mount Fuji by the summer of 2023.

In fact, in an effort to prevent the holy mountain from becoming overrun with tourists, the Japanese government has declared its intention to impose an admittance limit.

It remains to be seen if this anticipated popularity materializes over the upcoming months and whether travelers’ enthusiasm has been tempered by the recent Noto Peninsula earthquake or the fire that destroyed a Japan Airlines Airbus A350 at Haneda airport.

Vietnam, on the other hand, is the only nation in the top 10 to gain from having two representatives, thanks to Halong Bay and Sapa, a town that serves as a starting point for mountain climbing. Other than that, Palawan Island in the Philippines and Seoul, the capital of South Korea, are highly ranked.

Based on the largest year-over-year increase in interest on the platform, Asia has a solid future presence that differs significantly from Tripadvisor’s list of the most popular places in recent years. For the third year in a row, Dubai topped the list of travelers’ preferred destinations, followed by Bali and London.
