This year’s Hari Raya Aidilfitri holiday offers Jakarta workers the opportunity to “mudik” or travel back to their hometowns in the Java Island region for free by boarding a warship.
Bernama reported, except for electric motorbike riders, the Indonesian Navy has donated a warship with a 500-person capacity in order to return people and motorcycle riders to their hometowns.
“This program aims to assist the government in curbing the risk of road accidents during the holiday season, especially for motorcycle riders,” said its spokesperson, First Admiral Made Wira Hady.
He stated that the ship would leave Jakarta on 5 April, arrive in Surabaya on 7 April, dock in Semarang on 6 April, and return to Jakarta on 13 April.
In the meantime, around 68,000 members of the armed forces will support approximately 93,000 law enforcement officers in supervising the travel of 193.6 million individuals during the Eid al-Fitr holiday – a rise from 123 million individuals the previous year.
“In addition to personnel and warships, we provide air transport aircraft if needed,” said Indonesian National Armed Forces Commander, General Agus Subiyanto.
According to Ministry of Transportation forecasts, the departure will peak between April 5 and 8, while the return traffic to cities will peak between April 13 and 16.
