Malaysia's automotive industry needs workers with more skillsThe nation’s automotive workforce needs to be more skilled to handle the shift from internal combustion engines (ICE) to electric cars (EVs).

Bernama reported, according to Simon Ng, sales director for Dassault Systèmes Partner in Asia Pacific South, the country’s automotive sector greatly enhanced by the extensive and efficient provision of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

“The Malaysian government is encouraging TVET, but the technical stream training in the country can be strengthened further,” he said in his presentation on preparing Malaysia’s original equipment manufacturer (OEM), supply chain, and workforce for the EV era here today.

He stated that to integrate its Virtual Twin platform in TVET, the French multinational software company Dassault Systèmes intends to collaborate with several government organizations.

Ng said that the automobile industry may advance up the value chain from low-cost production to high-value innovation by upskilling both present and future workers.

This could assist the government in achieving the New Industrial Master Plan’s 2030 objective of RM583 million in manufacturing value-added.

Ng disclosed in his presentation that Malaysia sold over 2,600 battery electric cars (BEVs) in 2022 instead of 274 units in 2021.

Guillaume Gerondeau, vice-president of Dassault Systèmes’ Transportation and Mobility Asia division, stated that the company aims to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 and is eager to assist the automobile sector in lowering carbon emissions in its manufacturing sector.

He claimed that the company’s virtual platform gives businesses the ability to determine how much carbon consumed during the whole production process and offers them more effective solutions.
