The Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) suggested to the government that the RM1,441 starting salary program for Constables (YA1) be changed to a minimum monthly salary rate of RM1,500.
Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, Inspector General of Police, stated that the PDRM also put forward several ideas to improve the force’s integrity in addition to synchronizing the compensation scale.
“We have proposed an additional increase of 30 percent of the annual salary increment (KGT) or a ‘one-off’ KGT for the professional management group to the senior police officer service scheme, which is YA13 to YA24A.
“The same goes for the implementation group of the lower-ranked police officer and constable service scheme, from Y1 to Y10. Senior police officer service scheme and Orang Asli constable scheme, YP1 to Y10. For which we are asking for a 30 percent increase in KGT or ‘one-off’ on KGT,” he said in a press conference on 7 October.
He announced this after the Wildlife Crime Bureau/Special Investigative Intelligence (WCB/PSK) of the Department of Internal Security and Public Order (KDNKA) held its inaugural ceremony at the Ulu Kinta General Operations Force (PGA) target field close here.
Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali, Director of KDNKA Bukit Aman, Azlin Sadari, Deputy Director of KDNKA WCB/PSK Bukit Aman SAC, and Datuk Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim, Director General of the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan), were also present.
Razarudin also suggested that the Cost of Living Assistance (COLA) received by officers and members changed based on their location (urban, suburban, or rural).
“The salary received by low-ranking members is small, besides not proportional and unable to cover the cost of living, especially for those who work in big cities,” he added.
