The country’s rubber business is anticipated to boom in the upcoming years as a result of the expansion of its commodity-related collaboration with China.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s trip to China last Sunday, according to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, created opportunities for greater cooperation in the commodities and agriculture-based industries, such as biodiesel, rubber, and access for Malaysian agricultural products to the Chinese market.

Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Plantations and Commodities, continued by announcing that the ministry intends to send a mission to China to discuss potential areas of cooperation.

“If you look at it, in terms of rubber, we can focus on the products that we produce that are used in the construction industry, which are products that can ensure that the buildings can withstand earthquake tremors, for example,” he said after officiating the Malaysian Rubber Board Technology Day (LGM) 2023 in this location.

Fadillah provided additional details regarding the rubber innovation product, stating that LGM worked with the Tun Abdul Razak Research Centre (TARRC) to develop a reliable technology based on seismic rubber bearing goods to deal with structure movement caused by temperature changes or protection from tremors caused by earthquakes.

He mentioned that the MPOB building in Lahad Datu, Sabah, the Hevea Malaysia Academy building in Langkawi, and the Penang Second Bridge were among the Malaysian constructions that used seismic rubber bearings.

NaturalFR study was successfully carried out by LGM and TARRC as well. Several UK train stations’ door entries have been made of rubber products made with NaturalFR compounds because of its flame retardant, low smoke, and low toxicity qualities.

The same council also saw the exchange of two agreements, namely the commercialization cooperation agreement between LGM and the MRC and the memorandum of agreement (MOA) between LGM and Jupiter Solution to promote LGM’s innovations domestically and internationally.
