Over the next two years, Singapore is likely to see a major increase in the need for care and digital skills. This is supported by the Skills Demand for the Future Economy study from SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), which listed some of the top skills predicted to see significant increase.
The report’s conclusions are predicated on data from job postings from 2012 to 2022 that was predictively modelled. The study brought attention to digital economy skills like software design and qualitative analysis as well as care economy skills like good customer communication for the first time. The great degree of transferability of these abilities across industries and job types is well known.
Included are industry 4.0 skills, which emphasise automation and clever ways to improve production procedures. It is projected that there would be a rise in demand for certain talents, such technical writing and process engineering design.
The significance of making well-informed decisions was underlined by Gan Siow Huang, Singapore’s Minister of State for Education and Manpower, during the report’s introduction. Furthermore, the speaker emphasised the growing prevalence of mid-career transitions and the efforts of SSG and training providers to expand the SkillsFuture Career Transition Programmes. In addition, it now offers about 180 courses in the care, digital, and green sectors.
The green industry has grown steadily over the last two years even though it was not included in the forecasting study. Furthermore, employers are expected to demand more candidates with skills such as ecological and social governance, as well as managing carbon footprints, according to The Straits Times.
According to Lee Sze Yang, Managing Partner of KPMG in Singapore, people may get ready for the evolving nature of work and skills by understanding which abilities would be in demand. “People can help the development of industries and sectors projected to experience growth by acquiring the right skills,” she said in her conclusion.
