A novel endeavour is presently going in Singapore with the aim of revolutionising workplace wellbeing. The program underscores the mutually beneficial association between employee contentment and business prosperity.
This program, led by the local organization Workwell Leaders (WWL), aims to create a standard that will measure employee well-being and show how important it is for productivity, attrition rates, and innovation in the workplace.
In the past, a lot of businesses have focused on offering their staff members programs like stress reduction, yoga, or counseling in order to increase mental toughness at work. By examining the impacts of workplace behaviors, task management, teamwork, and creating a sense of belonging among employees, WWL seeks to go deeper.
Furthermore, the Straits Times was informed by WWL Chairwoman Anthea Ong that this benchmark—which is expected to be the first of its type worldwide—will play a crucial role in completely changing the dynamics of the workplace. She emphasized the significance of evaluating how wellbeing practices affect small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) as well as bigger firms.
The government, academic institutions, and business community are just some of the groups that have backed the attempt. Two well-known foreign experts on workplace health, Dame Carol Black and Professor Niki Ellis, are part of the workgroup. They are experts in both behavioral science and occupational health.
President Tharman Shanmugaratnam said that mental health needs to be a priority in the workplace. In a speech, he talked about how important it was to deal with mental health issues on a social level. He did this by referring to studies from the Institute of Mental Health and Duke-NUS Medical School that found that mental health issues cost a lot of money.
Lastly, the National Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy has designated workplace mental health as a major focus area, in line with national initiatives. The goal of this strategy is to mobilize social support networks for those who are experiencing mental stress.
