Job advertisements need not specify salary
Employers do not need to state the actual amount of salary offered in job advertisements, said Human Resources Minister V Sivakumar.
“Employers only need to state the salary range offered,” he said in a written reply to the Dewan Rakyat.
Sivakumar provided a response to the issue given by Lim Lip Eng (PH-Kepong) regarding whether or not the government intends to compel firms to publish the pay offered in job advertisements to protect workers’ rights.
He stated that individuals who hire foreign workers and expatriates, as well as job openings published on the MYFutureJobs employment platform, are the only ones required to comply with the subject.
So, to combat the issue of skilled labor leaving the country, Lim pleaded with the government in August for the country to establish a regulation requiring the inclusion of salary information in job postings.
According to Lim, businesses that did not reveal their salaries also contributed to the culture of paying much lower salaries to talented individuals.
