On Saturday, November 23, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology granted renowned actor Tony Leung Chiu-Wai an honorary doctorate in humanities.

Leung was photographed sitting among the guests in a mortarboard and a maroon robe in a number of images posted on his official Instagram account.

Jensen Huang, the CEO and co-founder of Nvdia, was also in attendance at the ceremony. He was awarded an honorary degree.

Actress Carina Lau posted a picture of Huang and Leung shaking hands on her official Instagram.

Leung’s wife is Lau.

Leung, who never went to college, later spoke to the audience in English and shared his thoughts by drawing on his more than 40 years of acting experience, according to the South China Morning Post.

Leung is famous for his parts in Chungking Express, In the Mood for Love, and Happy Together. He claimed that in order to remain “fresh,” he always tried to keep his work free of ego influence.

He also exhorted people to maintain their enthusiasm for their work by constantly trying to get better and pursuing their passions.

Huang promised to keep the company’s presence in mainland China. He urged university students in Hong Kong to seek careers at his company.

American mathematician David Mumford and Nobel winner Michael Levitt were both given honorary doctorates by the university.
