According to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the government has decided to raise the minimum salary from the existing level of RM1,500 to RM1,700, effective February 1, 2025.
The Prime Minister also announced that companies with fewer than five employees will have a six-month delay, until August 1, 2025, when he presented the Budget 2025 to the Dewan Rakyat on Friday.
The Human Resources Ministry will also release a set of standards for the starting salaries of mechanical engineers (RM3,380), industrial and production technicians (RM2,290), and professional creative content designers (RM2,985), according to Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister.
He added that after the Progressive Wage Policy pilot program in June. It will be fully implemented the following year with an RM200 million budget that will help 50,000 people.
To combat extreme poverty, Anwar said that RM250 million would be given to the People’s Income Initiative (IPR).
“Next year, RM250mil will be allocated to increase the participation of more individuals from the extreme poor group in the IPR programme to enhance their income,” he said.
He added that Skim Perlindungan Tenang will keep working with Bank Negara and the takaful and insurance sectors to help the two million Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah beneficiaries.
A RM30 voucher can be used by those who qualify to partially pay for Perlindungan Tenang goods. It cover general risks including fire and floods, personal accidents, and death.
