250 NUBE union members stage pickets at five bank branches

250 NUBE union members stage pickets at five bank branchesOn July 22, during lunch, around 250 members of the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) staged nonviolent pickets in groups of two.

According to a NUBE statement, five bank locations around the country were the pickets’ target.

“The atmosphere at each picket location was filled with a strong sense of solidarity and hope.

“NUBE members came together to voice their concerns and the pickets proceeded without incident, demonstrating the union’s commitment to peaceful protest and constructive dialogue,” said the statement.

According to J. Solomon, general secretary of NUBE, despite the heavy police presence at all locations, officers were cooperative. They maintained a respectful distance, ensuring the safety as well as order of the events.

He claimed that NUBE members could picket safely and effectively. Also getting their message across without causing any needless disturbances by working together.

He said the main concerns raised were the need for equitable compensation, a safe and courteous work environment, and also excessive CEO pay.

“This picket marks the beginning of a series of actions planned by NUBE to ensure that the rights and dignity of bank employees are upheld.
