With effect from 1 November, 5,000 working moms in Selangor who meet the eligibility requirements can apply for the ‘MamaKerja’ childcare incentive, which entitles them to a one-time payment of RM1,000 to aid with childcare expenses.
Bernama reported, the State Women and Social Welfare Committee chairman Anfaal Saari said there are a few qualifying standards in place, such as having a household income of RM8,000 or less and a minimum of three children who are 12 years old or younger for applications to be made through the Selangkah app.
“Eligible recipients will receive the cash assistance in their respective accounts within 14 working days once their applications are successful,” she said at the launch of the MamaKerja incentive on 26 October.

The most recent data from the Statistics Department showed that women’s employment rates in Selangor were comparatively low, at 69.9%. In comparison, men’s rates were higher at 83.5%.
According to Anfaal, a study conducted between 2020 and 2022 by the Merdeka Centre and the Asia Foundation revealed that high childcare expenditures were challenging for working women.
The RM5 million MamaKerja childcare incentive is a component of the Selangor government’s plan to encourage women to enter the workforce.
This is consistent with the 1st Selangor Plan (RS-1)’s “Enhancing Social Inclusivity and the Welfare of the People” strategy, which emphasizes women and family institutions.
More than a dozen programs that promote the welfare and growth of family institutions in Selangor outlined in the RS-1.
These comprise rewards for early childhood education in kindergartens (Tunas), childcare programs in kindergartens for B40 families (Asuh Pintar), and education and therapy for children with special needs (Bantuan Khas dan Didik Anis), which benefits more than 20,000 beneficiaries.
