Japan Airlines announced a cyberattack on Thursday that resulted in delays for both local and international flights, but it later claimed to have identified and fixed the issue.
Public broadcaster NHK said that over a dozen flights at several Japanese airports were delayed due to issues with the airline’s baggage check-in system, although there were no significant disruptions or mass cancellations.
All Nippon Airways (ANA) is the nation’s largest airline, followed by Japan Airlines (JAL).
“We identified and addressed the cause of the issue. We are checking the system recovery status,” JAL said in a post on social media platform X.
“Sales for both domestic and international flights departing today have been suspended. We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” the post said.
A JAL spokesperson said on Thursday that the firm had been the target of a hack.
According to a statement from JAL, the network outage started at 7:24 a.m. local time on Thursday.
