BlackBerry picks Malaysia for its regional HQ for cybersecurity

The Asia Pacific regional headquarters of BlackBerry Ltd.’s cybersecurity division are in Malaysia.

BlackBerry stated that the office, which is now fully operational, is located in Cyberjaya and benefits from its proximity to important government infrastructure and burgeoning technology clusters.

It said that, after a historic cybersecurity agreement was announced in November 2023, BlackBerry’s new headquarters and regional development in APAC demonstrated its continued commitment to the Malaysian government.

In order to help upskill the country’s workforce, BlackBerry partnered with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to create the Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (CCoE), a top-notch training facility.

Tash Stamatelos, vice president for APAC at BlackBerry Cybersecurity, stated that the company is pleased to open its new APAC headquarters in Kuala Lumpur as part of its regional expansion ambitions and that Malaysia is a strategically significant market for BlackBerry.

“As the nation becomes Chair of ASEAN in 2025, we commend Malaysia’s efforts in advancing digital transformation and regional cooperation in areas like cybersecurity, and ongoing investment in skills, innovation and infrastructure to advance its economy. This is building a trusted ecosystem that is attractive for global companies like BlackBerry to invest and operate in, and we are excited about our journey ahead with Malaysia as our regional APAC hub.”

Meanwhile, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said: “I welcome the decision to set up this regional headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. This will benefit Malaysia and enable the region to take advantage of the cutting-edge cybersecurity solutions offered by BlackBerry.”

With a staff comprising sales, marketing, threat research, technical support, professional services, administration, management, and several highly qualified cybersecurity trainers. The BlackBerry Office at the Malaysia CCoE is well-positioned to assist cyber-defenders from Malaysia and the surrounding area.
