ByteDance lays off hundreds of employees in Malaysia

ByteDance lays off hundreds of employees in MalaysiaThe parent firm of TikTok, BYTEDANCE Ltd., laid off hundreds of employees in Malaysia.

According to a person with knowledge of the company’s Malaysian division, around 500 people were let go after getting emails from the business, The Malaysian Reserve (TMR) reported.

There are rumors that the majority of the employees on the platform—which serves not just South-East Asia but other regions as well—work on content control.

TikTok uses both human moderators and computer methods to control material on its network.

Using supervised learning—a technique where human feedback is used to improve the accuracy of the AI’s content moderation capabilities. TikTok’s artificial intelligence (AI) learns from human moderators in order to filter out inappropriate, harmful, or policy-violating content.

According to a June Bloomberg story, ByteDance fired 450 employees at its Indonesian division after acquiring a regional e-commerce company and merging it with its TikTok business.

CNN revealed in May that TikTok intended to fire a sizable portion of its global operations and also marketing staff.

Teams in charge of content and marketing, communications, and user assistance are anticipated to be affected by the worldwide layoffs.

The American news organization further stated that as part of the transition, TikTok’s present global user operations team will be disbanded. Also with the remaining staff members being divided among the trust and safety, marketing, content, and product teams.

TMR is attempting to acquire an answer on the issue from ByteDance Malaysia.
