Therefore, the Minister of Investment, Trade And Industry of Malaysia, Tengku Datuk Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said the incentive framework and cooperation with institutions of higher learning were implemented to deal with the problem of a lack of workforce in the sector of Malaysia.

He said so at the 4th PRAXIS 2024 Conference in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, according to Astro Awani‘s report.

“The issue of talent is the most raised issue in all sectors,” Tengku Zafrul said.

“Especially the E&E (Electric and Electronic) sector. The E&E sector is big for Malaysia. We have a sector that is 40% from our exporters. So 40% of total exports are in E&E. Another 40% is in the manufacturing sector, and the other 20% is in commodities. It’s a big chunk.

Tengku Zafrul also mentioned that talent is the biggest concern for companies in Malaysia, particularly in the engineering and semiconductors fields.

He said that the engineers shortage is currently a global issue as well.

“Indeed, this is a global shortage. Because the need for semiconductors suddenly increased with the advancement of AI.

“At the same time, in our country’s semiconductor strategy, we are targeting as many as 60,000 engineers that we must produce in order to be able to fill the sectors that need it, especially the E&E sector.

Tengku Zafrul mentioned that the government will cooperate with local universities, private universities, TVET, and other institutions.
