The American Maintenance and Fleet Association (AMFA) initiated a strike on Friday at 430 p.m. local time (2330 GMT), which is equivalent to approximately 670 maintenance engineers.

In the event that the strike is not over or if there is no prompt action, the airline already issued a statement indicating that additional cancellations may occur on Saturday morning.

Earlier today, WestJet made the announcement that it is demanding the swift intervention of the Canada Industrial Relations Board as well as the labor minister. Over two hundred and fifty thousand people were going to travel over the course of the long weekend, according to the airline.

According to the announcement made by the airline, WestJet will fly a significantly reduced schedule by parking aircraft in stations located all over Canada before the end of the day. There will be a beginning on Saturday.
