Malaysia ranks second for innovative country

Malaysia ranks second for innovative countryMalaysia is ranked second most innovative among 36 Upper Middle Income countries.

Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation Chang Lih Kang said Malaysia remains second after Singapore among ASEAN countries.

“The country also remained in the 36th position out of 132 countries in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2023 report. But recorded an increase in score to 40.9 this year compared to 38.7 in 2022.

“The increase in scores is driven by various initiatives. Including establishing the Global Innovation Index Inter-Agency Monitoring Committee from 2021 through the Government’s Overall Approach. Involving all Federal government ministries and agencies.

“The Global Innovation Index Initiative Input Coordination Workshop was held last September involving all ministries to collect data that can contribute to improving GII’s innovative performance,” he said in the Dewan Rakyat.

He said this in response to a question from R Yuneswaran (PH-Segamat). It is regarding the strategy of innovation and commercialization (C&I) that will be worked on. It is for the delivery of public services to support Malaysia to be among the top 30 countries in the GII by 2025.

In the meantime, Lih Kang said to ensure that Malaysia ranks among the top 30 countries in the GII by 2025, the ministry will implement several initiatives, including intensifying commercialization efforts by strengthening and implementing the Government-Funded Intellectual Property and Invention Commercialization Policy 2021 to 2025.

“In addition, the draft of the National Planet Health Action Plan to ensure Malaysia is one step ahead in dealing with human health issues and the link with nature, biodiversity, and climate change, which are also measured in the GII.
