EU countries show interest in investing in Sarawak

More European Union (EU) countries are interested in investing in Sarawak because of the state’s sustainable policies, said Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“They (investors) have met with me including the EU Ambassador (to Malaysia Michalis Rokas) to learn from Sarawak … because he said our policy (Sarawak) is environmentally friendly … and also from a sustainable policy point of view,” he said when speaking at a dinner party night in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak Branch, according to FMT.

Abang Johari said Sarawak has its expertise and way of development to strengthen the state’s economy.

He also suggested a European-Malaysian student exchange program, especially in higher education institutions in Sarawak, to allow students to strengthen their knowledge of technology.

“I know that Sweden is famous for converting waste into energy…for example, plastic bottles used as materials for road pavement.

“The business is a circular economy, which does not dispose of waste, but used as a material for economic development,” he said.

Therefore, he called on UiTM alumni with various expertise to provide input to the state government to develop Sarawak.
